Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration that marked the founding moment of the European Union, a Europe Day Fair was organized on Saturday 9 May in Ramallah. The event, hosted by the European Union Representative, Mr Christian Berger, was openfrom 12:00 to 17:00 at the First Ramallah Group (Sarreyet Ramallah) compound, and proposed exhibition of EU-funded projects across the West Bank and Gaza, as well as cultural activities and entertainment.
As CSDP mission involved in the overall support of the EU to the Palestinian people, EUBAM Rafah participated to the event. Members of EUBAM presented the Mission to the visitors, explaining its role at the Rafah Crossing Point, its achievements and its current situation. They distributed leaflets, T-shirts, notebooks and pens to the public. About 2 000 people of all ages visited the fair. EUBAM members assured the visitors that the Mission is ready to redeploy at the Rafah Crossing Point and willing to fulfil the third-party role proposed to the European Union by the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority in November 2005.
In the evening, a concert and a reception were organized at the Ramallah Cultural Palace to celebrate the occasion. Minister Abdullah Al-Franji as a representative of President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Palestinian Ministers and officials, and the diplomatic corps attended the celebration together with around 600 invitees from local and international organizations.
