A senior delegation from the European External Action Service (CCPC), headed by EU Civilian Operations Commander Mr. Kenneth Deane, together with a delegation from EUBAM Rafah, met with the Director General of Borders and Crossings, Mr. Nazmi Muhanna, and other senior officials from GABC on Tuesday 13 October, 2015. Mr. Muhanna expressed his gratitude to all efforts exerted by the EU in general, and by EUBAM Rafah in particular, which are aimed at helping the Palestinian people and at supporting GABC in enhancing their capabilities and improving their infrastructure. He also called for the expansion of EUBAM Rafah’s Mandate to include other border points. Mr. Deane was also very grateful towards the partnership established between EUBAM Rafah and GABC, and thanked all active parties for their ongoing work that is strengthening the relations and partnership between the EU and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Mr. Deane also expressed the EU’s full commitment to maintain its support to the PA, and thanked both parties for their collaboration in planning and executing EUBAM Rafah’s ambitious Joint Road Map aimed at supporting GABC and the Palestinian Customs Administration in their efforts to be fully prepared to redeploy at Rafah Crossing Point, when political and security conditions allow.
