Border opening hours to be extended for two hours
The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EU BAM) at the Rafah Crossing Point (RCP) announces that today, Sunday 26 March, will be extending the opening timeframe at RCP for two additional hours at the request of the Palestinian Authority.
From today, the border will open daily for 11 hours, from 8:00 to 19:00. Nevertheless, the last buses -both incoming from and outgoing to Egypt- will enter the Crossing before 18.00 hours, in order to close RCP no later than 19:00.
EU-BAM will continue to gradually increase the opening hours until the goal of having RCP open for 24 hours a day is achieved.
Since RCP was opened on 26 November, more than 160.000 people have crossed in both directions, averaging over 1.350 each day.
Although not in large quantities, the export of goods is also taken place, in accordance with the "Agreement on Movement and Access" reached on November 15 by the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
