On 7 December 2016, the Information Technology Project, to be implemented by EUBAM Rafah during the current mandate, started at the Palestinian General Administration for Border and Crossing (GABC) premises. During the kick off meeting attended by GABC managers and EUBAM staff and experts, the Head of Mission, Natalina Cea, underlined the importance of this opportunity as a basic step for the implementation of the IBM and Business strategies. The Project aims at conducting a deep assessment of the current IT System of GABC and other Palestinian border authorities, with a view to identify the main gaps and needs of the systems. As a result, the IT team will produce by April 2017 a comprehensive assessment along with tailored recommendations in order to allow the Palestinian Authority to sensibly improve their performance at Rafah CP, when the political and security situation will allow for their redeployment at the border.
