This week, members of the Integrated Strategic Planning Division of the European Union Crisis Management and Planning Directorate visited the occupied Palestinian territory and Tel Aviv to conduct an interim strategic review of EUBAM Rafah.
The purpose of this type of strategic reviews is not to examine the performance or progress of the Mission, but to evaluate the relevance of the Mission’s mandate on a backdrop of the current operational and political situation, and to get a clear idea of the challenges of the Mission in this perspective.
The findings of the review are consolidated into a Strategic Review Report which, after an alignment procedure, is presented to the European Union Political and Security Committee for their approval.
Following the review and the report, the Crisis Management and Planning Directorate can take on a consultative role in assisting the Head of Mission in tackling the mandated tasks.
