Mr. Guenther Freisleben, Head of EUBAM Rafah, wishes all Muslims a happy Eid ul-Fitr, an important religious holiday marking the end of a month-long period of fasting and reflection for Muslims. On this occasion, Muslims attend special morning prayers, gather with family and friends to exchange greetings and to enjoy celebratory meals.
The name of this holiday translates as "Feast of Breaking the Fast" and occurs on different dates every year. Due to the fact that the Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles, Muslims break their fast upon the sighting of a crescent moon which indicates the beginning of a new month. This year in Palestine, Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Fitr on June 5 for the duration of three days.
“I extend my warmest greetings to all Muslims celebrating Eid ul-Fitr. This is the time of the year to appreciate the spiritual reflection, the compassion with those less fortunate or in need and the greater blessings received throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan”.
