On 9th March 2023, EUBAM Rafah together with the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) hosted a joint visit of EU Ambassadors to Jericho and GABC.
After a briefing by Nazmi Mhanna, the Director General of GABC, and EUBAM Head of Mission Florin Bulgariu on the work of GABC and EUBAM's achievements, the delegation visited Al Karameh Terminal and the Command and Control Centre (CCC) of GABC. The CCC was funded by EUBAM Rafah and its operators were trained by a Specialized Team, deployed by the Mission. It consisted of two Hungarian and two Polish experts.
In the presence of the EU Representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, the briefing also highlighted the Trade Facilitation Project, which was launched by the Office of the European Representative to the West Bank and Gaza Strip (EUREP) and supported by EUBAM Rafah. It aims at helping expand Palestinian trade and improve overall economic conditions for the Palestinians.
The Director General of GABC acknowledged the received support of the EU Member States and EUBAM Rafah for Palestinian border management and stressed the need for further assistance. The visit was a valuable opportunity to present the work of GABC and of great interest to the visiting delegation.
