From November 25 to November 28, 2024, the GABC Training Center in Jericho hosted a specialized Document Control (Refreshment) course aimed at enhancing the skills of 16 GABC staff members. Under the guidance of expert trainer Jos Braker (EUBAM Visiting Expert) and co-trainer Mr. Azzam Abo Hijleh (GABC Border Police), this intensive four-day course focused on refreshing participants' knowledge and improving their ability to conduct effective document controls.
The training covered various critical topics, including paper production, watermarks, printing techniques, inks, and additional security features integrated into documents. Practical exercises provided hands-on experience with real documents, using tools such as ultraviolet torches, magnifiers, and digital microscopes, generously donated by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. Trainees learned to identify security features and printing techniques while receiving guidance from their instructors.
The course also introduced biometric passports and included an interactive Kahoot test and an evaluation session to assess participants’ progress. At the end of the training, participants received certificates of completion, awarded by Mr. Azzam Abo Hijleh and Alexander J. Braker.
The outcome of the training was highly positive, with all trainees demonstrating a marked improvement in their document control skills. Some participants showed exceptional performance, while others benefited from additional practice. EUBAM Rafah will continue training other GABC personnel and support the development of a GABC curriculum to further reinforce the skills learned and develop future lead trainers.
