EUBAM Rafah redeploys to Rafah Crossing Point

Following an Israeli and Palestinian request, and with the agreement of Egypt, the EU has reactivated its presence at the Rafah Crossing Point (RCP) in Gaza, in line with the Agreement of Movement and Access and the Agreed Principles of 2005.

On 31 January, EUBAM Rafah, the EU civilian border assistance mission, deployed a specialised team to the Rafah Crossing Point to allow the parties to reopen the RCP.

The reopening of the RCP allows the transfer of individuals requiring medical care and accompanying persons out of Gaza. EUBAM Rafah personnel is there to monitor the process.

On 1 February,  a first group of some 80 individuals left Gaza in line with the terms of the agreement between the parties.

As of 3 February, some 300 persons have crossed the RCP.

Under the terms agreed with the parties, the period of deployment of EUBAM Rafah at the RCP will last until the end of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.
