09.05.2013 - EUBAM Rafah marks Europe Day

Various European institutions celebrated the "EU Open Day" in Brussels and Ramallah. It was a chance for members of the public to learn more about the EU and its work. 

 

All the EU CSDP (EU Common Security and Defence Policy) missions were present on 4 May in the huge atrium of the EU Council building in Brussels. EUBAM Rafah, displayed items, brochures, videos and messages to the public, illustrating the work of the mission. EUBAM Rafah sent a team to the Belgian capital to take part in this event which gathered around 5,000 visitors.

 

EUBAM stood in a joint booth with the other EU CSDP Mission in the area, EUPOL COPPS. The President of European Council, Herman Van ROMPUY, personally visited the stand as well as the Executive Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Pierre VIMONT and the Deputy Civilian Operations Commander within the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC), Gilles JANVIER.

 

Another EUBAM Rafah delegation also participated on Wednesday 9 May in the celebrations of Europe Day organized by the Office of the European Union Representative and which took place in Ramallah. Head of the Office of EU Representative in Jerusalem John Gatt Rutter and Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad visited the open-air fair including the stand of the Mission. This event, which also included recreational activities for children, has attracted thousands of guests.
