EUBAM Rafah Collaborates with OLAF and PACC

The European Union Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point joined efforts with the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission to deliver a training on "Cross-Border Irregularities and Frauds; Anti-Corruption Preventive Measures."

For the duration of two days, a training on cross-border irregularities and frauds took place at the Training Center of the General Administration for Borders and Crossings in Jericho.

The training built on the findings and outcomes of an earlier workshop that was held in March and focused on the investigations on border related frauds. It came as the first among a comprehensive project aimed at strengthening GABC and the capacities of the different border agencies working under its umbrella in order to fight corruption and border related frauds.

The training, which started on 26 November, targeted 43 participants from GABC, members of the border agencies as well as PACC. Through the exchange of knowledge and the active discussions, participants have become more familiar with international and domestic methods in tackling cross-border irregularities and frauds through the application of key principles and teh use of best relevant practices.

Two visiting speakers from OLAF shared their experiences in investigating customs irregularities and frauds by means of joint customs operations and joint investigation teams. They also presented different forms and examples of cooperation with EU Member States and other international organizations.

From their side, local representatives from GABC and border authorities explained the measures in place in addition to the monitoring and financial procedures whereas PACC representatives highlighted the preventative courses of action related to monitoring and managing of anti-corruption cases.
