On 23 January 2020, the European Union Border Assistance Mission concluded a one-day-workshop on "Enhancing GABC Capacities in Adressing the Needs of Disabled People Crossing the Border". This workshop, held in Jericho, comes as the first of its kind to rethink the obligations towards disabled passengers.
The workshop was led by the Mission's Border Police Expert and Visiting Expert who had earlier conducted a tour of inspection to check how convenient and accesible the current facilities at Al-Karamah Crossing are for disabled passengers and to particulary examine the practices with them.
Representatives of the General Administration for Borders and Crossings in addition to members of the General Union of People with Disabilities sat for the workshop and participated actively with personal experiences and insights. The Union, represented by its Head and Secretary General, welcomed the initative and urged to make the Palestinian society more inclusive for people with disabilities.
The workshop introduced the Mission's project and objectives in that concern and was concluded with recommendations on how to improve and increase accessibility of the terminal for people with movement disabilities as well as visual and hearing impairment.
