EU Appoints Florin Bulgariu to lead EUBAM Rafah

At a meeting of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union, Florin Bulgariu was appointed Head of EUBAM Rafah, effective 1 November 2020. 

Mr. Bulgariu is a high ranking police officer (Colonel) with more than 25 years of professional experience. He is thoroughly specialized in conducting border operations on both the operational and strategic levels and is fully acquainted with all the EU mechanisms related to border operations including Schengen aquis and asylum granting procedures. ​

Mr. Bulgariu worked as the Head of Operations - Integrated Border Management Expert, in EUBAM Rafah (since 2017). Prior to joining the Mission, he held for the total duration of twelve years different management positions within the Romanian Border Police during which he developed significant border related expertise. 

Mr. Bulgariu also served in a number of senior posts in the Middle East and the Balkans for more than eight years; all of which under the umbrella of the EU. Mr. Bulgariu worked in long-term deployments (EUBAM Rafah 2005-2007, EUMM Georgia 2008-2010, EUBAM Libya 2014 and again EUBAM Rafah 2017-2020) as well as short-term ones with Frontex (Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Spain).
