Last week, EUBAM Rafah Head of Mission Nataliya Apostolova, together with the Mission staff currently in the in the area of operation, had the honor to meet EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, during his tour of the Middle East and the Gulf.
HR/VP met representatives of the two CSDP Missions operating in the Palestinian Territories, EUBAM Rafah and EUPOL COPPS. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to present the Mission’s engagement on the ground in these challenging times and also to discuss common efforts with representatives of the UN.
During his visit to Ramallah, HR/VP met Palestinian leaders President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki and emphasized the ongoing support of EU. EU has quadrupled its humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza to almost 100 million Euros.
EUBAM Rafah has continued to execute its mandate despite the current challenges, providing constant support to our Palestinian counterpart. It maintains readiness to redeploy to the Rafah Crossing Point once the political and security conditions allow, subject to a decision by the EU Member States and the agreement of the parties on the ground.
