Palestinian Vice-President Receives EU Delegation to Discuss Humanitarian Access to Gaza

The Palestinian Vice-President, Hussein Sheikh, received today a delegation from the European Union which included Alexandre Stutzmann, EU Representative for Palestine, Stefano Tomat, Civilian Operations Commander for the EU’s civilian missions and Nataliya Apostolova, Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah).

The meeting, held at the Vice-President’s office in Ramallah, was also attended by Ayman Qandil, Chairman of the Civil Affairs Authority, and Nazmi Mhanna, the Director General of the General Administration of Borders and Crossings (GABC).

Vice-President Sheikh briefed the delegation on the grave challenges facing efforts to ensure the flow of humanitarian goods to the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing war, continued starvation, and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

He stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and for increased international support to facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

Both sides explored ways to strengthen international coordination to ensure aid can reach the population swiftly, safely, and on a sustained basis.

The Vice-President also acknowledged the vital role EUBAM Rafah has played while being deployed at the Rafah Crossing Point during the February–March 2025 ceasefire, highlighting its continued importance in facilitating humanitarian operations.
