European Council Extends the Mandate of the EU BAM RAFAH

The Council prolonged the mandate of the EU border assistance mission for the Rafah Crossing Point (EU BAM Rafah) as well as the mandate of the police mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS) until 30 June 2017. These missions are part of the wider EU efforts in support of Palestinian state building in the context of working towards a comprehensive resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a two-state solution.

On 15-16 February 2016, 19 officers of the General Administration for Borders & Crossings were trained by EUBAM staff on “Integrated Border Management Strategy”, in the framework of the implementation of the Joint Road Map.

On 8-9-10 February 2016, 21 officers of the General Administration for Borders & Crossings were trained by EUBAM staff on the risk analysis management system, in the framework of the implementation of the Joint Road Map.

Leadership and Change Management Training

On 24 and 25 February 2016, 14 Heads/Deputy Heads of Departments related to the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) discovered and debated on leadership styles, management roles and decision-making. This  “Leadership and Change Management” training was designed and run by the EUBAM Human Resources Management and Leadership Adviser at the Palestinian Civil Police Academy in Jericho.

On Thursday 23 July, the Head of EUBAM Rafah Mission met with the GABC Director General Nazmi Muhanna at Al Karamah terminal in Jericho.

The purpose of Ms. Cea’s visit was to introduce her and to underline the continuation of the sustainable cooperation with GABC as the main counterpart of

 EUBAM Rafah. This session was part of a series of high level meetings held recently to maintain and develop contacts with stakeholders involved in the potential reopening of the Rafah Crossing Point.

Hungarian National Police visits EUBAM Rafah

On Monday 14 December EUBAM Rafah received an official delegation from the Hungarian National Police consisting of Mr. Ferenc HORPACSI DR. (Police Colonel), Head of Education Management and Training General Department of the Hungarian National Police HQ, and Mr. Tamas FEKETE (Police Lt. Col.), Liaison Officer, from the National Police HQ. The Hungarian delegation was briefed by EUBAM Acting HoM, Mr. Guy Rolin, about the Mission’s activities.
