On 9th March 2023, EUBAM Rafah together with the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) hosted a joint visit of EU Ambassadors to Jericho and GABC.

After a briefing by Nazmi Mhanna, the Director General of GABC, and EUBAM Head of Mission Florin Bulgariu on the work of GABC and EUBAM's achievements, the delegation visited Al Karameh Terminal and the Command and Control Centre (CCC) of GABC. The CCC was funded by EUBAM Rafah and its operators were trained by a Specialized Team, deployed by the Mission. It consisted of two Hungarian and two Polish experts. 

International Women's Day is an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements but also to raise awareness about gender discrimination and to promote the empowerment of women and girls.

On 8th of March, Florin Bulgariu, Head of Mission of EUBAM Rafah, thanked all mission members for their dedication. He recalled the history of International Women’s Day and stressed the inequalities that still exist between women and men all over the world.

In the presence of Stefano Tomat, Managing Director / Civilian Operations Commander (MD/CivOpsCdr) of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC) of the European External Action Service, and an accompanying delegation from Brussels, EUBAM Rafah held its annual Medal Parade Ceremony in the Mission Headquarters located in Ramat Gan.

Followed by an opening speech of Stefano Tomat, three Mission Members from different EU Member States as well as two local colleagues were rewarded in recognition of their work on 28th February 2023.

From 20 February until 25 February 2023, EUBAM Rafah facilitated a study visit for a delegation of the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) to Budapest.

This visit aimed at identifying areas of cooperation with Hungarian institutions in the field of Integrated Border Management and Training and at boosting the relationship of GABC and the Hungarian counterparts.

Looting and illicit trafficking of cultural property have become major security concerns that also affect border management. Therefore, EUBAM Rafah organized a training seminar on Cultural Heritage Protection aimed at increasing the capacity of the Palestinian General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) in fighting against trafficking of cultural property.

Following the successful completion of the training course on “Conflict Prevention/ Conflict Management” delivered by the experts from the German Police State Bureau for Training, Professional Development and Personnel of North Rhine-Westphalia (LAFP) in June 2022, EUBAM Rafah together with the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) opted for an advanced course that would foster knowledge, skills and competences.

On March 8 each year, people around the world commemorate the achievements of women and their contributions towards forging a gender equal world. 

In the presence of Mr. Francisco Esteban Perez, the EU Civilian Operations Commander and the Director of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC), and an accompanying delegation arriving from Brussels, EUBAM Rafah held on Monday 7 March 2022 its Medal Parade Ceremony in the Mission HQs located in Tel Aviv. 
 

This year, EUBAM Rafah has taken part in the International campaign against Gender-Based Violence. This campaign which began in 1991 and lasts for 16 days starts on November 25 each year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day. Mission members have joined this year's theme “Orange the world: End Violence against women now” and called for ending all forms of violence against women and girls.  

As part of EUBAM Rafah's dedication to promoting gender mainstreaming in its activities with the General Administration for Borders and Crossings and its commitment to empowering GABC female staff members with both the knowledge and skills that will enable them to take on higher level leadership positions; the Mission concluded a series of trainings on Project Cycle Management and Project Design on Wednesday 3 November 2021 in Jericho.
